MapMart is a fantastic source all kinds of data, both for the US and worldwide. Make this your source for aerial and satellite imagery, scanned topographic maps, and vector street maps.

Imagery data from Spatial Energy is provided through Spatial On Demand, an online service providing access to the energy industry’s largest archive of imagery data from leading satellite and aerial providers. Through Spatial On Demand, users can quickly and easily search for available imagery and order it online. The imagery can then be imported, viewed, manipulated and analyzed using leading desktop solutions such as Global Mapper, Google Earth, ESRI ArcView, Virtual Earth, and others.
The USGS Geographic Data Download site is the central repository for USGS 1:250K DEMs (digital elevation model), USGS 1:100K and 1:24K DLGs (Digital Line Graphic), and USGS LULC (land use and land cover) data. Of course, all of this data is ABSOLUTELY FREE for download.

The USGS Seamless Data Distrubtion Center provides access to several USGS data sets, including the following:
  • NED (National Elevation Data Set) - supplies 30-m resolution seamless elevation data for the entire continental US
  • Urban Areas High-Resolution Orthoimagery - supplies 1 foot resolution aerial imagery for the largest urban areas in the US
  • SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) - supplies high resolution elevation data for much of the earth

The 2006 Tiger/Line page offers individual counties from the 2006 Tiger/Line vector data set for free download. This is an excellent source of detailed vector roadway data for the United States. You can also purchase the entire 2004 Tiger/Line data set on DVD from us.

The NGA Digital Nautical Charts site offers a large selection of marine charts in DNC format for free download. DNC charts can be viewed in Global Mapper v6.00 and above.

The NOAA Electronic Navigational Charts site offers a large selection of NOAA marine charts in S-57 format for free download. S-57 charts can be viewed in Global Mapper v6.00 and above.

The NGA Raster Roam site offers several NIMA data sets for free download, included VMAP levels 0 and 1, DTED level 0, ONC, and TPC data. All data available at this site can be loaded by Global Mapper v6.00 and above.

The GIS Data Depot offers a wide variety of data, including 1:24K USGS DEM data for the US, 1:24K USGS DRGs (scanned topo maps), and a large selection of imagery and vector data products.

The updated National Atlas of the USA is designed to provide a reliable summary of national-scale geographical information. Though it cannot provide detailed map information, the Atlas directs users to other sources for this information. Most data is available in Shapefile, GeoTIFF, or SDTS vector format, all of which Global Mapper supports effortlessly.

GeoBase Canada provides a large assortment of FREE data for Canada, including Landsat-7 imagery, 1:50K and 1:250 CDED elevation data, a National Road database in Shapefile format, and the Canadian Geographic Names data set in Shapefile format.

This NASA site provides FREE LandSat imagery for most of the Earth's land masses circa 1990/2000. The data is provided as MrSID files which can be downloaded and loaded directly into Global Mapper.

The CGIAR Consortium for Spatial Information provides FREE 90-m (3 arc second) elevation data for the entire world! CGIAR-CSI created this data set based on the SRTM data set and then processed it to fill in voids. The data is also available through a Google Earth interface at http://www.ambiotek.com/topoview.

Satellite Geodesy provides FREE 30-arc-second elevation data with bathymetry for the entire world! The data was created based on the SRTM-30 data set, then holes were filled with GTOPO-30 data and bathymetry from various sources was used to replace the ocean areas. Just download the .srtm.gz files from the SRTM-30+ FTP link and load them directly into Global Mapper v6.07 and later.

MadMappers is the best site is the best source of mostly free raster, vector, and elevation data for Africa. If you need data for the African continent, check here first since they probably have it and you might be able to download it for free.
